THE
NUKES
"Loud
and gritty with an authentic feeling of intensity." - Music
Connection
"The bands age was unexpected, but how good they were was
shocking." - Don't Hear, Listen
In today's
world of boring cookie-cutter bands, THE NUKES are a truly original
teen rock band bringing intensity and fun back to concerts!!!
Drawing on a wide variety of influences, THE NUKES have a unique
sound that's louder and grittier than kiddie pop, yet more dynamic
and melodic than super-ultra-death metal. THE NUKES have been
raising the bar for their fellow teen bands and taking the LA
local music scene by storm only since January 2010 but have already:
- played most
of the legendary clubs on the Sunset Strip, including the Roxy,
the Key Club, the Troubadour, and the Viper Room
- been featured in a Valley Film Festival award-winning documentary
about the inception of THE NUKES
- traveled on a west coast summer tour of the U.S. and Canada
- recorded a 6 song EP with producer Bryan Carlstrom who has worked
with artists such as Alice in Chains and The Offspring
- opened up for the Donnas at The Troubadour
- been awarded Music Connection magazine's weekly critics choice
award 2 weeks in a row
- gotten their own station on Pandora
- gained over 1000 fans on Facebook
- shot 2 music videos
THE NUKES are: Hunter, Kody, Rachel,
Dimitri, and Emilio
Hunter
Taran
Age: 17
Instrument: Vocals
Personal Interests: loves to sing, act, dance, read, watch movies
and T.V., & listen to music
Favorite bands/artists: Beatles
School: Malibu HS
About: Anyone who knows Hunter knows she's very humble about her
amazing vocal ability. She has perfect pitch and a four-octave
range. Don't confuse her modesty with timidity because her out-going
personality, confident stage presence, and natural control of
the crowd make her nothing but ideal to lead a rock band. Hunter
has performed in musicals since she was 8 years old and was a
member of the Fresno Grand Opera as a 1st soprano for 2 years.
She's been classically trained by voice teachers Judith Dickenson
and Edna Garabedian.
Kody
Wood
Age: 18
Instrument: Drums
Personal Interests: movies and videogames
5 Favorite bands/artists: Led Zeppelin, Rush, Foo Fighters, Toto,
Incubus
School: (Alumni) Northridge Academy HS; currently a music student
at Pierce Community College
About: Kody is the classic, energetic rock drummer who is the
life of the party. With his ability to meticulously feel out a
song, he knows when and what to play to make a good song great.
With his impeccable timing, he never makes mistakes. Kody has
been playing drums since he was 13 years old and takes drum lessons
from Jeff Winter (who studied under Freddie Gruber, drum instructor
to Vinnie Colaiuta, Neil Peart, Steve Smith, and Dave Weckl).
Rachel
Brady
Age: 17
Instrument: Keys and Backing Vocals
Personal Interests: Reading, music, surfing, skiing, martial arts
5 Favorite bands/artists: Neon Trees, Aerosmith, Adele, Billy
Joel, Smashmouth
School: Vista Murrieta HS
About: Rachel's the kind of girl who loves achieving more than
what's expected of her. Rachel plays some of the most difficult
compositions and hand-cramping solos while singing harmony with
Hunter without skipping a beat. Rachel has played piano since
she was 9 years old and has sung in her church's choir. She is
proficient in many different instruments (such as flute and oboe),
is fluent in sign language and, with her Karate skills, serves
as the band's on-stage bodyguard.
Dimitri
Nardini
Age: 14
Instrument: Guitar and Greek Bouzouki
Personal Interests: Bike-riding, staging lightshows and photography
5 Favorite bands/artists: Figure, Wolfgang Gartner, J. Rabbit,
An Endless Sporadic, and John Mayer
School: San Fernando Valley Professional School
About: Dimitri is what many would call a natural-born guitar player.
He has an ear for quickly picking out melodies and can easily
figure out a song on the radio just by fiddling on the guitar
for a minute or two. Dimitri's nonchalant attitude while playing
convoluted chords and ripping solos almost gives the impression
that the guitar is too easy for him. He has been playing guitar
since he was 8 and bouzouki since he was 11. Dimitri takes guitar
lessons from Ben Jindra and Rowan Robertson (who played guitar
for the band Dio).
Emilio
Larrazabal
Age: 17
Instrument: Bass
Personal Interests: sleeping, reading, thinking
5 Favorite bands/artists: David Bowie (Ziggy Stardust: Motion
Picture Soundtrack), PJ Harvey (Jungle Queen, Rid of Me), Radiohead
(The Bends, O.K. Computer), Moby (Play), the Strokes (Is This
It)
School: (Alumni) CAVA
About: Emilio is the second oldest of four brothers. He started
playing bass when he was 12 years old in a punk band with his
older brother. Because his punk band had booked their first show
before they even owned instruments, the first time Emilio held
an electric bass guitar was the same day and hour of their first
show at the Rock Rose Gallery in Highland Park. Up until then,
he had practiced on a cardboard cut-out of a bass he had made
himself.
